There are a couple of solutions that should work well. One example can be this expensive gamepad built specifically for this purpose from SteelSeries:
And there are other solutions, such as connecting a bluetooth controller intended for other purposes for the iPad - requires the thing to be jailbroken though: http://www.makeuseof...r-to-your-ipad/
