Hi folks. When a battle is about to start and the list of players is up, some of them have a shield next to their name with a "1" in it. Anyone know what this signifies?

They are platooned with another player who also has the same symbol.

You may also see a 2 with a shield that symbolises their are more than 1 platoon on your team

Correct,
If you have multiple platoons in your team
The guys with the shield and the number 1 are in their own platoon
The guys with the shield and the number 2 are in a separate platoon
You can have as many platoons as there is space for in your team
