I see no thread about the Type 4 Chi-To, Tier VI medium.

I just bought it and I'm trying to find some useful advice.

First games it seems to be slow and badly armored like it's predecessors. The stock gun is good and top gun seems to be a little better in pen and rof.

Seems it lacks the gun depression of the Chi-Nu which was a strange but good tank for its tier. What do you think about the Chi-To? Any tips for better games in it?

I'm grinding it too and not enjoying the process, trying to play second line sniper with mixed results. I have binos, optics and rammer and try to stay back and out of sight which isn't easy as it's big. I think Sariel and Epicsniper both have vids on this play style but not specifically this tank in the Japanese line. Hope this helps.

Thanks 84Venturi for the feedback,

I'm up to 18 games so far and I'm hating it more with every game.

I unlocked top gun and engine.

The gun helped with penetration and ROF but it is still bad for a tier 6 with such mobility and armor.

The engine made little difference, the tank is still very slow.

I only hope the top turret will give a bit more depression although I'm not counting on it.

I'm trying to find a good playstyle for this disappointing tank.

While I have less than 90% crew I use rammer, optics and vents. Will later swap vents for something else.

I will post a full review when I unlock all modules + 100% crew

Upgrade it fully - buy vents, rammer & GLD - use the gun depression and keep the hull hid as much as possible - the gun is the best part of this tank.

52 games and 73% wr, it's not a great tank but I really like it. Hope I can keep the wr at the same level

My setup is coated optics, vents and rammer.

At the moment I try to apply the playstyle that proved to be effective for me in the original WoT.  (3 marks of excellence)

examples: http://wotreplays.co...n-type_4_chi-to

http://wotreplays.co...n-type_4_chi-to (you need to have world of tanks installed on your PC to view the replays)

-try to make use of the excellent aim time and penetration.

-take snapshots.

-fill out gaps in the line of your team during the early game - later try to flank.

-use terrain a lot.

-dip in and out of vista points/ridge lines quickly. Do NOT try to get your gun ready to shoot when you peek over ridge lines. If your teammates are around, there is a good chance that someone will use your spotting. (watch their position in the minimap a lot) If you spot something: great! if not and you get spotted: it doesnt matter. you are safe and based on the fact that you were spotted you can make up plans where to take "probes" next.

-do NOT use binos. the time that it takes to activate gives the enemy too much time to aim at you. You are one big target and they can pen you everywhere. (in case that you get spotted in the process) Yes, you give up static view range but the aforementioned method makes up for it.

-in the original WoT the gun features a good module damage coefficient. Learn the position of modules like tracks, ammorack and motor. You have the accuracy to shoot those precisely. You can often put enemy tanks on fire because of the good module damage factor.#

-train camouflage and smooth ride

I didnt get the mastery badge in Blitz yet but a good number of first class badges. Seems like if mitigating critical situations in a battle makes it hard to get the mastery too often.

Statswise the Chi-To may not seem like the best option in tier 6. Its a bit hard to master because of the subpar mobility which usually makes out the quality of a medium tank. In the original WoT it takes a bit of a sixth sense and an awareness for where you are needed on the map to compensate the slow speed.

I've recorded a set of battles, no editing they are shown as they have been played, like stream:

Enjoy!

Nice gameplay, thanks for sharing. I need to play my Chi-To a bit more aggressively and make much better use of cover!

After 80 games I finally finished grinding the Chi-Ri and will soon sell this bugger.

Here's what I think of it

Pros:

Good gun, fairly accurate, ok ROF, great pen and good damage

Very small and low profile, hard for enemies to spot you and even harder to hit you.

Especially when hull down, your turret is very small and big part of it is covered by the mantlet.

Cons:

Quite slow for a medium and its armor is mostly useless.

Gun is good but DPM is fairly low, you can't afford to face any enemy in one on one situations. Must be sneaky

Strategy:

This tank seems to be better suited for a second line supporter or flanking sniper (I made that up but maybe it makes sense... explanation below) role. Avoid getting hit at all costs and the gun will make sure to deliver a fair amount of damage to the enemies.

When the game starts rush for cover positions while spotting, then it's mostly peekabooing behind hills/bumps or sniping across the map.

Never engage enemies in one on one situation, never yolo noob.

Never get too close to reds, and never proceed without having a couple teammates in front of you, or right behind you. This is a tank that needs support.

Finally, the Chi-To feels much like a Centurion I except for it's small size and low profile. I guess the same playstyle of the Centurion applies to the Chi-To

My best battle so far in this tank. Rockfield, I flank with the panther and the rest of team stays at spawn. All 7 reds took the main route. I snipped for about 20 minutes unspotted from across the map while the reds were killing green team. When greens died I just hid behind a bump, poping only turret to finish off the last reds as they were coming.  That's what I meant with "flanking sniper" role.

3857 dmg / 6 kills / 1477 XP

Is it worth grinding beyond this tank in the Japanese line?

The chi-ri is definetely worth a try if you can live with its huge size, mediocre speed and non-existent armour.

Yes, Absolutely. The STB-1 is one of the best tier X mediums of the type (no armour, good gun, troll turret).

I love the Chi-ri and STA-1 as well, not actually played the tier IX yet, just training rooms.

Always remember this, every tank in this line has literal paper armor.

However, it's gun depression and the pen number is just absolutely amazing

2015= 75% noobs

2016= 90% noobs

You will, it's a great tank. It's like a Chi-Nu with a slightly better everything, plays exactly the same.

I struggled immensely in mine initially, despite watching Unkindests excellent video several times.

I'm glad I've found a thread on this! I've got a chi-to and its unbearable I'm my opinion, it's still basically at stock for me and I have the second gun but I've found it frustrating to use. My play style is usually aggressive and brawling, or fast and mobile. Is this a tank that doesn't suit my play style?
