First 10 battles I used binoculars, but as I was moving so much and driving around I changed them for Optics 10%.

Thanks a lot!! Will try that

Good choice! :)

I think when you become very experienced in the STA-1 and you know what it can do, you can run both Coated optics and Binoculars. This will give you 35% increase in view range, and you can play it like a Spotter/Sniper and make credits like mowing the lawn from spotting and tracking damage. :)

So rammer, binos, optics? I'm debating switching out optics for camo net...

It is just a mediocre tank, nothing more unfortunately. Will prefer chi-ri over this everyday. The hull down is unreliable, hull is very weak against he, average speed, above average gun and very sensitive crew with damage prone modules. The only motivation one can have is probably the rifled gun on type 61 and stb-1, I dont see any other point in going through this machine.

I got the top gun recently and wow, what a gun it is... I love tanks with precise and high pen guns like the Panthers. Crew is not 100% yet, but it feels pretty mobile to me. I hated chi-ri, such a boring tank imo, so sta is definitely an improvement. WR is bad though.

Yes, Like I said, that is a tier IX weapon, and one of the strongest points of the tank.

Work on your long- and medium flanking amours, and look for shots constantly. You will hit people at 3-400 meters no problem, and as the penetration is good, you'll most often do damage.

Also work on running away from bad engagements, which are pretty much any engagements you have from the front. IF you see someone coming straight for you, think "I am in the wrong place!" and just go. Remember camo rating is good, so you'll disappear quick. :)

I try to keep my distance and I run binocs to remind me of that.

I suppose it's a bit of a cop out, but I feel platooning makes this tank really shine; platoon mate distracts the reds, while I put damage in.

:teethhappy: I'll keep that last bit in mind.

I am actually trying Binocs on a lot of Medium tanks right now for precisely that reason. Especially vehicles with good mobility - I started with the Cromwell B, actually.

And I don't think platooning is a cop out; in these paper Mediums, you need to stay connected to your team, and of course a platoon mate helps with that. Two people herding cats may also be more successful than one?

God this tank! I*ve still played too few games but damn....so hard. I just dont get where it Excels in comparison to other T8 mediums. it has ok dpm, but falls behind in dpm after cent and panther. view range 260 is also not unique in t8. Maybe Camo? at last no armor whatsoever...skilled players rek u With HE. pen is ok and pen With prammo is even better, still cent has better pen on ap.

its a stinking pile of godzilla sh*t, with no useful attributes. all it can do well is long distance sniping from camo, but its so slow it wont get to a useful place before half your team has died. and should you need to relocate, the rest of the team dies while you do it. its one of the worst tanks for carrying a win in tief 8. Even the Panther2 looks like a beast next to it.

Well i have been putting the Sta 1 off for quite a while now as I didn't think it looked very good based on stats, however having read your guide I now feel a lot more optimistic about it, especially as I loved the Cent 1 (yes I know I'm wierd) im not far off having the free exp to get the top gun strait away, as soon as i do im gonna go for it. Thanks :)

Just bought this, grinding at the mo, have upgraded the turret (I'm not sure why!?!) and wondering what your recommendations are for the upgrade path? I'm thinking top gun followed by engine and tracks. Seems to be a lucky start up to now...

I'd recommend going for the top gun first; that extra pen made a huge difference to me, though I left it for last as it required the most xp.

Free xp'd it like the massive gold noob I am, good gun! Hopefully, when I'm above 83% crew skills, I'll no longer suffer the random misses.

top gun is a must have!

i saw the pen values didnt improve much from the second top gun, so i figured id grind the last gun...

then i forgot about it, and grinded up 100k xp without upgrading, hating the tank all the way...

then one day i noticed, and upgraded to the top gun, and the difference was amazing! The real big improvement was the gun actually started hitting! with the second top gun, i kept missing shots all the time, and especially snapshots were completely useless. The top gun seems infinitely more reliable for taking quick shots!

Fully upgraded now and I'm enjoying it, more like the rest of the line than the Chi-ri, still at 90% crew so some way to go yet. Might go all the way with this line as it seems to work for me. :)
