Should spend free exp to get the turret and top gun for Chi-Ri? The stock grind seems to be excruciating, to say the least.

World of Tanks Wiki

Early Research

  • Should have the second gun and top radio unlocked from the Chi-To, mount immediately
  • Tracks first, as they are required to mount the turret
  • Turret and autoloading gun
  • Engine next, as it adds only 50 horsepower

I would say yes. The autoloader is what makes the Chi-Ri what it is, and it is an important survivability tool because of the extremely short reload. You will, for example, have three chances to de-track a charging enemy and make your escape.

Yes do it! It's not that hard to grind but the autoloader is king!

People say "You won't get 450 damage per clip!"

Xenodium said "That's right, you don't. You get 480 clip damage..." :)

That said, the autoloader is also good for peekabooming in fairly rapid succession, then backing up/running away for ten seconds, and you're all set to go again! People don't know how to deal with autoloaders, often.

I am recently playing the Chi-Ri and guess what?

The Chi-Ri is similar to the SP-IC in so many aspects.

But MUCH more worse.

  1. Both get an Autoloader. But the SP-IC can do more damage with it's two shoots, you don't have to expose yourself so much
  2. Both have no armor - but Chi-Ri is a barn
  3. SP-IC is small and fare more nimble - Chi-Ri is a barn
  4. SP-IC is a light tank, camo resets on the move - Chi-Ri is a barn
  5. SP-IC can penetrate IS-whatsoever from the front with prammo - Chi-Ri can't

So I ask myself, why do play the Chi-Ri again?

You're driving it wrong, completely different playstyle

The Chi-Ri is one of the hardest tanks I had to grind sofar. I barely got the winrate to (almost) 50 perc, but it also seems like I have to carry every game in it.

My first 20 games or so I played the tank all wrong,  but now I understand that it is a support tank (or support barn if you like) and you need to survive until the end to be able to try to carry.

I also learned to ignore all the idiots on this game ("Chi Ri noob wtf u doing" "stop being slow, come here noob") who dont' understand team dynamics. Most of them don't seem to last more then 90 seconds anyway.

The matchmaking on this thing is horrible btw, 3 out 5 games are Tier 8, infested with IS3 and IS6 all on the red team.

I think it is even tougher than the Ru-251 at least with the Ru I can do hit and run but with a driving circus on wheels it is a bit hard.

But that autoloader and topgun are brilliant, especially with the expensive gold AP you can hit those pesky IS3 and IS6 all day long.

This JPN event has been a blessing, and hopefully by weekend Ill buy the Chi-Ri. I'm just gonna grind it out on x2, the turret and autoloader gun, I think that 15k exp is wasteful.

Are we talking about the same tank? :P

10+5k for that sweet top gun can hardly be called a "excruciating grind". The engine and tracks can be installed later, the tank moves sluggish either way.

So far (60 games in) looks like an excellent and promising tank but you have to know how to use it. I feel it excells in Close to mid quarter encounters With other light or medium tanks (f.e. comet, t43, spic). Especially if you get the first shoot off, you will often be able to trade 3 for 1 shot in the first encounter. Important to have something to pull back to while reloading. Tank has a good hp pool but will hardly Bounce any shot. Worst you can do is long range encounters against any high caliber gun who in turn is shooting at you.

dont forget HE for spics and the New german td line.

after mm change it is far more easier to play. before that it was all bounces. İf you use it right you can get crazy dmg scores with this tank.

Yea, the Chi-Ri is like half the speed of a SP I C...

Also, re: burst damage, look at this 502 hotpoint beauty??:
