It's delay in milliseconds.
So if your ping is 500 it means that when you are firing a shot at someone you are actually firing a shot at a place where he was 0.5 seconds ago. Playing with high ping needs quite a bit of adjusting.
Basically, the lower the ping the better

Ping also affects drivers response and consumable using, if your ping becomes excessive, the game bcomes unresponsive
The only reason that you lost... is that you p***ed me off.
