What advice for a player unfamiliar with the map would you type in the chat box at the start of a battle (i.e. short and to the point)?

I found this advice from the forums, not sure how useful it is as I have just started on tier III battles so get new maps around 30% of the time. I do feel I have at least some of idea of what I might do to avoid just being a random target though.

  • Rockfield : Go to the Radio Antenna / Bunkers
  • Oasis Palms: Go to the Desert SW/City
  • Yamato Port: Mediums go to Green area, Heavies go to ship
  • Black Goldville: Mediums go to caves, Heavies go to plant
  • Canal: Go to Hills  Mediums SE (Train) / Heavies go to NW (Rocks)
  • Castilla: Mediums Bridges/Castle,  Heavies Windmill.
  • Desert Sands: Mediums west of the town, Heavies go to Town
  • Dead Rail: Take Hill
  • Middleburg: Take Hill
  • Vineyards: Go to Ruins
  • Himmelsdorf: Mediums go to the railway and Heavies the opposite side
  • Falls Creek: Area West of the Base?
  • Mirage: Heavies go to the waterfall and Mediums go towards the sea
  • Winter Malinkova: ????

There are obviously more maps to understand but haven't found tips (or didn't understand the tip)

Oh! And while we are about it. Why do people on Mines insist on going to the west hill / river area? Most often this results in a loss and the flankers are either destroyed quickly or play no real part in the battle?

Usually I just type <<< or >>> except in Castilla where I say "windmill" or "bridges" because tanks are back-to-back at the spawn.

At Tier IV heavy tanks start to appear and you may start playing battles differently depending on how many are in your team vs. how many in the red team.
But if you go to the side that favors your team composition, you will often find out that the reds are not there!
Also, some tanks are better than others in hilly areas because of their ability to shoot down (gun depression).

My personal rule of thumb:
Rockfield : go to bunkers
Dead Rail: take hill

Middleburg: take hill

Oasis Palms: go SW or city
Yamato Port: if meds then green, if heavies then ship
Black Goldville: if meds then caves, if heavies then plant.
Canal: if meds then SE (train), if heavies then NW (rocks). Avoid center.
Castilla: if meds then bridges/castle, if heavies then windmill.
Desert Sands: if meds then plane, if heavies then town.

Vineyards: go ruins

Canyon: toss a coin

Short and to the point, as an easily understood set of strategies for new players you can't go far wrong with this. well done sir.

I'd go middle in Vineyards and Canyon in meds or lights. Base B in Supremacy.

Not sure I've had that one, is it available at tier IV?

Also bear in mind that strategy can change for Supremacy as opposed to Encounter.

Probably needs a thread by someone who has played supremacy games, tier V?

For Mirage usually heavies go to the waterfall and mediums go towards the sea.
In Himmelsdorf mediums go to the railway and heavies the opposite side.

Supremacy games might need a separate discussion for the general strategy, but I'll edit this post with my considerations as soon as I find maps with the position of bases...

And I always wonder why, as neither has any strategic advantages, and rarely does this tactic result in a win.

Thanks for the tips all, keep them coming. Maybe we can get some consensus on the maps. I'll also add it never hurts to set-up a training room to explore unfamiliar maps.

Mirage, a strange map imo.

Some swear by waterfall, some by railtracks.

Myself, I tend to go waterfall side of hill and take on the Reds while they ponder which way to go..

Theres enough cover, it can be risky but it has worked on more occasions than failed.

Yeah, I've seen people barrel down through the village keeping close to the hill. Can work if you know all the good cover positions, but you need at least two more from the team coming with you. EDIT: Oh, and you also need to be in a nimble heavy or heavium. Too light and they'll smash you, too slow and they'll run away.

Either keep things simple or use humour:

"Fast tanks left pls <<<<<<<<<<<<" or "Fast tanks right pls >>>>>>>>>"

Or on mines or "hill fast pls"

On mines or Middleburg i usually go with :

"Party on the hill, free drinks"

For Black Goldville replace hill with caves. Usually work a treat.

Last game on Middleburg I used this and was the only one on the hill, other 6 greens spawned near town. Got six affirmatives and all six team mates came and joined me on hill, I was in LTTB and lost half my hit points holding reds off whilst me team came up, but when they got there we smashed the 4 reds on the hill then just rolled down to overpower the last 3 reds.

Directing the greens is like herding cats, often it just doesn't work. If it obvious there is only you going the right way, bail out and go with the rest, otherwise you will end up in a 1v3 which never normally ends well.

On Mines I only typed Hill and the same person typed "Noob!" followed by "Eneeeemies". Usually I don't say nuffink. Just try to go the best route and change once I see the team going another way. Anyway the team rarely pays any attention to advice, I only hope some stick around to watch after they die and maybe learn something. Downside is when you end up 1 v 1 ...no pressure knowing the other 6 might be watching

Giving directions can be an important aspect of the game. Positive and Negative. Ideally the guy with best line-up reading capability should do this. Disputing left/right usually fails. When you think, you are maybe not the most knowledgeable tanker, wait a second before you post a direction. Try remember who the good players are or to which clan they belong and stick to their commands. Often when I am lowtier and maybe not the most important part of the team I ask "where" to go.
