Hi everyone

This is probably obvious to most.

At the beginning of a battle what makes you decide which direction to go in? I am not sure if my thinking is correct or not. Basically I look at the composition of both teams. If we have more meds and lights than the reds then I would head for the open ground area of the map e.g. the desert. If we have more heavies and TDs then I would suggest going to the towns. There are certain maps where this won't necessarily apply e.g. Rockfield.

Or am I being too naive?

Nop, team composition is a good indicator. Though if you go with team composition you might - in some cases - discover that the reds went the other way (except for the yoloer).

However, sometimes it works going counter. For instance, say, on Copperfield they have a TD-heavy team (thanks WG for the utterly imbalanced team composition) and you have a fast light team. You could try rushing their TD spawn to take them out early. So you could call 'crane' instead of 'water tower'.

Now, of course, whether they understood what you meant is another matter. Some players have a somewhat more... tenuous grasp of English.

Being more a noobicum than unicum, I still feel brave enough to suggest that plans should first be formed on the enemies' composition, not green. Going the heavy route only to be flanked and surrounded makes little sense no matter how many heavies green have. Try to anticipate what reds will do, and then counter.

Second, you need to adapt to what on earth the reds actually do.

Third, you need to adapt to what on earth the greens actually do.

Edit: Not necessarily in that order.

Always feel those that say "always hill" are missing something of the tactical nuance of the game.

There are strategic points on all maps. The tactics your team needs to adopt to control those points vary with the team composition. The tactics you need to adopt yourself depend on what the team does. If it's stupid (like going to the ships in Port Bay), then see how you can provide fire support and not die. Always assume your team is useless and the red team is unicum. Call targets, do damage, don't get hit and don't die.

Caveat: I often fail at this....

I understand what you say. But whenever I'm top of the list and try to implement it quickly, I end up like this comic strip.

it may be that they disagree and want to go <<< when you want to go >>>> or you did not get the message out in time and they have already started to move. But then again I might be giving some team members too much credit.

Its like herding cats. Impossible. There is alot of directionally-challenged players out there right now. Current vehicle of choice - Kuro. Funny that.

Worst case is when in a slower tank, and say where you want to go, AND get "affirmative " from the green mediums and lights, so that by the time you start moving the greens have either disappeared over the horizon the way you want to go, or even worse go in the opposite direction ..........

Those that shout "affirmative " and then go in the opposite direction are seriously challenged by simply using the two brain cells they have!

Often it's like herding cats.

People say yes - right/up - and then don't do it, or there is pointed disagreement about which direction, team splits and you have to decide whether to give in and go in a direction you don't agree with after doing your own analysis.

...but whenever 3/4 of you run into 7 of them life gets interesting pretty damn quick.

(And on Castilla I often don't know which is which.  "Monastery" is a lot more to type than "mill" though.)
