Is the Jpanther II better or the Ferdinand better? I understand the Jpanther II has marginally but gun and mobility characteristics but the Ferdinand has far better armour. I prefer armour over mobility but I also like a good gun. Is the difference between guns noticeable? What do you guys think?

Jagdpanther II. More mobile and a smaller target help it survive.

Jgpanther 2 all the way. It's hell to cod it. It is fast a delivers same punch as Ferdinand.

Ferdi rockz... Is3-6 nearly no Chance to pen from the Front!

But without a Team you are a sitting duck!

Jp2 is more  agile but the lower Frontplatte is huge and easy to pen.

A Ferdi is a much harder opponent than the jp2 and without support both are easy to flank or circle to death

I really like both, if you have the space and credits buy both and get best of both worlds.

I do better in the Ferdi but the Jpants2 is a lot more fun!

Well, whilst I am not brilliant in the JP2, it's mobility means it is still better than the Ferdinand, which I really detested, and so got rid of it as it really didn't suit me at all!

For now jp2 all day because dpm better, mobility better and the armor around gun is heavily sloped 150mm armor. And the damn ferdinand.People will just use gold rounds to pen your 200mm armor.

I had the both researched and I went to buy Jagdpanther II. I Can’t figure out what Ferdi has what JagdPanther II doesn’t have.

Ferdinand was my first love; the first one I thought would be unachievable for a noob like me. It's still a lovely tank.

I do prefer the Jp II these days, because as many noted it has the better mobility. The guns are practically the same; notably the Ferdie has better gun articulation, but still, I couldn't justify keeping them both, and I reckoned the more mobile Jagdpanther II would suit me better in the future. It turned out I was right. But the Ferdinand is by no means worse, it's just different. You trade speed and sloping for armour and gun arc, basically, and you learn to angle, hull down and brawl up close instead of relocating and short flanking.

Some time ago in other post about this i posted the nice simple comparison of this tanks "jagdpanther2 is like an agresive SS-man , going to fight quickly but often puts too much risk by ariving as first line of attack , ferdinand on the other hand is like a calm Wechrmacht-veteran - stable , using his experience to.it advantage( angling etc pays more role ) gets slowly to fight and gets enemy position already known by scouts and stormtroopers "

The Ferdi suits / suited my play style (at the time of grinding both) better.  While I can understand the advantages of the Jpanther II, I couldn’t make it work for me consistently - the Ferdi on the other hand seemed to churn out steady damage and wins.  The gun is fantastic and needs very little prammo and has a high alpha (although low-ish pen) HE shell.

I didn't find an issue with the mobility of the Ferdi as I use it to support the heavies, in the main.

Empros is recruiting! Message me in game to apply.

I had pretty much the same experience, but I figured once I was a better driver, I would be able to make the Jagdpanther II work and it would be more fun for me because it was more mobile. That is also how things turned out.

I like to say if you prefer Heavy tanks, then get the Ferdinanad. If you prefer Medium tanks, get the Jagdpanther II.

You may think this looks like a landslide victory, but remember the Ferdinand was never very popular, even when it had no competition. It was a typically Elitist tank destroyer, we had several fans in AFK.

Although I got a mastery on my first ever JPII game with 75% crew skills, I definitely preferred the Ferdinand "back in the day".

Ferdi 172 battles 55%WR

JPII 149 battles 51% WR

Since I haven't played either since 2015, have they changed so much that I should go back and try them again?

It is clear that the old players have left Ferdinand. With the light AMX, Ferdi is useless. The WR are from years ago, when Ferdi was a very tough TD.

This thread is really helpful for me as I am currently at the jg pz 4. Based on the comments above, I think I will get both tanks as I can play both of their play styles after recently playing the obj 263. I will probably get the jpanther 2 first based on mobility (so grinding the xp for the Jagdtiger will be less boring).

Back in the day (whatever that means), I ground the line from Flatpanzer to JPanther to Ferdi to JagdTiger, getting steadily worse. Bought JPII later, found it suited me much better. One of the few high tier tanks I didn't scrap when I started denoobing.
