Almost time for the Chinese new year, time to roll the tank bundes out. So today we have in store the Chinese WZ-112-2  and  WZ-111 tier 8 heavy tanks. You can get the WZ-111 for 5,000 gold with a garage slot, 9 equipment slots and a rare camo with a 55% discount, the WZ-112-2 for 7,500 gold with a garage slot, 9 equipment slots, a legendary camo, and an attachment at 50% discount. Finally a bundle of both of those plus an additional 15 x5 XP certificates on each for 10,500 gold

 

So let's deal with the WZ-112-2 first.....sales history since it launched.

So initial observations, the tanks are cheaper than offered before, but in the case of the WZ-112-2 that's based on the bundled content, it was cheaper before but unequipped.

 

 

Compensation is 2,900,000 credits for the WZ-112-2 (7,250 gold), 2,200,000 credits fot  the WZ-111 (5,500 gold), 580,000 credits for the Legendary camo and 216,000 for the rare camo (1,450 and 540 gold equivalent) and 345,600 for the attachment (864 gold equivalent)

 

It's worth looking at all the offers broken down I think here. Starting with the WZ-112-2

That calculates out as a 49.58% discount. Let's rate the tank.

 

Tank Effectiveness	86%	Gun 82% DPM isn't great, and the penetration is a little low, but it's a typical 122mm gun. The alpha is a standard 400 as well. Aim time is slow and dispersion is not great either. So basically it fits right in with all the IS and WZ heavy tanks at tier 8! They get the job done, but nothing spectacular. It does have 1 degree less gun depression that the Glacial, but other than that they are the same gun. Armour 93% The Glacial strength was in its armour, but the WZ-112-2 although it has the same profile, is a bit weaker. 20mm more on the hull but 45mm less on the turret. That doesn't mean the 112-2 is weak, far from it. It's almost the default second choice to the Object 252U in tournament battles if you know how to use the armour. Manoeuvrability 75% at 42kph it's 10kph faster than the glacial although it has slightly worse traverse. This is nice, as getting in and out of trouble with heavies is always an issue and speed is important.  Flexibility / Versatility 75% Having speed in a strong heavy tank should not be underestimated. Relocating when your teammates need support is a crucial skill for any tanker and the added speed here is critical to lifting the WZ-112-2 significantly in the flexibility category. Beyond that it's just a copy and paste of the IS/WZ heavy tank line.
Fun Factor	71%	OK, let's just say IS style gameplay in tier 8 heavies is generally...well, a bit boring! You glean your fun from being effective, bouncing shells and winning battles. It's not horrible, but you won't raise a giggle either.
Offer value for money	88%	Much better value now,

Putting the price aside, you have so many options in the IS/WZ category in the tech tree, you need to be sure you want another one. Like the Object 252U, this is stronger than the tech tree tanks if used properly, so that may swing it for you. Worth a punt, especially if you don;t have the 252U.

 

Now onto the WZ-111.

That calculates out as 55.96% discount. But that's only because they value the tank at only 5,500 gold, tier 8 tanks should be valued at around 7,500 for consistency and discounting improving this offer to 62.55%. But what about the tank itself?

 

Tank Effectiveness	77%	Gun 82% Exactly the same gun as on the WZ-112-2 and the Glacial...but with only 5 degrees of depression. 215mm penetration, 400 alpha with average aim time and dispersion for a heavy in this class. Absolutely typical for this type of tank. Armour 87% Pike nosed armour differs from the glacial and the 112, but follows the basic same principles of any IS / WZ variant. It is pretty much like an IS-5 with 20mm more armour on the turret....as if you needed it! Manoeuvrability 71% Only 35kph, and some of the terrain resistance numbers aren't so good. It has quite a lot less engine power than all of the other IS/WZ variants and you feel that in driving it. Flexibility / Versatility  73% Side scraping and hull down are the order of the day here...no different playstyle than any other IS / WZ, brawling etc...tinse...repeat
Fun Factor	70%	As with all IS / WZ tanks, they get the job done. No bells or whistles, just armour and troll guns. You will maintain a decent enough win rate at least in these tanks, but it won't send the pulse racing.
Offer value for money	95%	Great value offer!

Another IS/WZ clone. Maybe a little bit better than tech tree versions, so may be worth a grab if you have the spare cash and don't fancy the heavy grinds.

In-store yesterday we have the 121B tier X Chinese medium tank in the store for 15,000 gold with a garage slot, Legendary camo and 9 slots unlocked with a 35% discount.

Hmm, no discount listed, but exactly the same offer as back in November which was listed as 45% discount....so no real savings here then. But let's break it down anyway.

 

Compensation for the tank is set at 5,900,000 credits, that's a gold equivalent of 14,750, the camo is 1,020,000 credits (2,550 gold equivalent).

OK, so no discount listed but actually calculated out at 41% but it's no better of a deal than last time at all. WG seem to have a ceiling at the moment of 15K gold for their tier X tanks, they are not willing to drop below that price point regardless of the bundle.

 

The 121B was the first tier X premium sold in the game, so it leads the way pricing wise so this offer is very disappointing now.

 

Time for the real money bit.....

Now I'm not going to get into the debate here around whether tier X tanks should just be sold in-store, but I will say that at below £30 which I would hope most could achieve this is a bargain price for a fully equipped tier X tank. Of course, I use the term bargain very loosely here, it is cheap in terms of the other game content, but in real-world terms it is definitely too expensive.

 

OK, so that's enough of the money side, what about the way they handle, are they any good?

 

Tank Effectiveness	84%	Gun 80% Great DPM, good penetration and a good alpha set the tank up solidly to start with. The aim time is excellent, though not as good as the WZ-121. Dispersion is also good. Gun depression is OK at 6 degrees, which is low for a medium at tier X. Overall it's a good performer. Also has great shell velocity so hardly any lead needed on distant targets. Armour 90% Rock-solid turret, the hull isn't so tough, but is well angled and outperforms the likes of the T-62 and OBJ 140. All around a very tough tank in the right situations Maneuverability 82% A solid 56KPH and a decent traverse speed sets up the tank nicely to get in and out of trouble. Flexibility / Versatility  72% Like all meds, you are reliant on good cover and good mobility. The 6 degrees of gun depression is the biggest weakness in this regard. It's OK but does struggle a little on ridges to get the gun over to really protect itself. So can the 121B fulfill multiple roles on lots of different terrains, yes, but only with good cover. This is true of all mediums of course.
Fun Factor	81%	Very good tank, it is outshone a little by the tech tree WZ-121 that has 420 alpha and a 0.91 second aim time, but that doesn't detract from how well it plays and looks if you put on the shiny gold camo!
Offer value for money	80%	Now for a tier X tank that you don't have to spend a penny on to equip, you have ti all here. It's not pocket money for sure, but in the WG pricing model it is a good deal. I've dropped the offer value, as WG have not dropped the price, so it is less valuable in my book now if they aren't going to reduce it further.

If you can afford the asking price and are willing to pay it, then it's a fun tank to play. The deal is now good enough to recommend, worth a punt for a bit of bling
