I'll follow with mine. :hiding:

As I dont want to bring things down right away with an answer that depresses everybody.

Feel free to keep it short and sweet.

I'm a big fan of the classics. I always watch them when they're 'for free' on the TV.

But since I watched Flowers of War.

I feel it's the most harrowing one ever, not by special effects, but the premise of corruption and necessary self sacrifice, really stirred me up a bit. Emotionally.

I dont mind Platoon either. I have the Dutch version. And US, UK. Chinese knock off special edition. Thats a good plot on how your friends turn on you. Any time. And the gullibiity of people when the sergeant makes things up suddenly. Rings true to me.

I think each War movie. Focusses on different areas about war.  Which is good. Cos means if you watch all of them. You'll get more well rounded.

As we say here often "shut up nobody cares"

Is best summarized with The Charge of the Light Brigade, we're all heading nowhere, nobody cares, wrong ideas, wrong leaders, wrong orders. And we wont be remembered. When dumb orders come. We'll follow them and all just die. Silently without a whisper. Never to be remembered. By anyone.

Seems to be the way life works. huh.

Flowers of War - I have to admit I've never heard of it, will check it out...

Charge of the Light Brigade: Yeah, needless sacrifice because of bad communications and superior officer stupidity is a common theme in war.

Cruel Sea - good pick, cracking film.

only every game here then lol,

also i took from it how horrible the ruling classes, and the zealots that always demand wars,  but that was a long time ago ( or was it) :B :coin:

check out Flowers of War you will come away - more depressed much more - than before you wondered what it was about, really f***** depressing downer hit, but still, worth a watch i guess, very close to the bone of todays politics, its the only WAR FILM i have sworn never to watch ever again.

sure these issues were in the past, sure they were, ( lol - no - things never change - only the LIES CHANGE ) :coin: NEW TIMES NEW LIES  Pretending things are fine is always good for morale. SURE YES of course.

Zulu is without a doubt the most cherished take on things ever, every ten years on the run down, it's always top, whilst the whole worlds gone to the dogs, atleast theres a few sane people from old days sneaking their votes from time to time...

Der Untergang was interesting, opened my eyes to stuff if never really thought about before like how much of a cult the Nazi party was.

And a total Bulls#it Hollywood ending.

As for a great movie . An ungentlemanly act. Based on the Falklands invasion 1982 when a small garrison of marines held up the invasion fleet by 24hrs, Then Zulu, Battle of Britain,Battle of the River Plate.

Battle of Britain would be even better with the original music. And without Susan George playing and anachronism.

The 10 volume Almanac of Battle of Britain is better than the movie. The feeling of horror sinks much deeper.
